All of this snow talk made me look up some more photos of Pittsburgh in winter. I'm sure you've all already seen PittsburghSkyline.com, but look at what I found on Flickr:

I love the hills in the back.

There is also an awesome video on You Tube with some excellent skiing through Pittsburgh's hills right in the city. I'll see if I can find it.

I'm honestly just somewhat weird.
Well, going from Scranton to undergrad in Pittsburgh was no adjustment or anything really noticeable. I then went to grad school in Philly and after I graduated, landed a job in Pittsburgh. I did notice the contrast. So in a way, I miss Philly's winters minus the nor'easters. Believe me, I'm way too familiar with climate in PA. Every once in a while here, we'll get fairly heavy snow covering all of our hills and a solid blue sky in the background. Now that is what I call picturesque . Unfortunately, it doesn't happen every day in the winter

I don't understand why NOAA doesn't select a specific time-span (say 50 years) for every single city. How can you compare 50 years of snow in Pittsburgh to 60 years in Philly? Why can't we compare them equally with an equal time frame? The same comes up with possible % of sun... 49 years for city A compared to 70 years for city B. How can you make an accurate comparison?

That's how long each city has been keeping records is my guess. I've seen other NOAA lists that use the past 30 years.

Here are some other cities:

Birmingham Co, AL 11 yrs
Redding, CA 10 yr
Santa Barbara, CA 12 y
Gainesville, FL 15 yr
Blue HIll, MA 117 yr
NYC, Central Park, NY 134 y
Galveston 124 y

At the bottom, it says the list was updated in 2008.

NOAA knows what they're doing. Seriously.

Yeah, but where's the lift? I suppose you could use one of the inclines...

So I had great sandwich tonight and thought of this thread. If you haven't been to Szmidt's Old World Deli, you should go. It's awesome.
