It's a hip hop club. Not all people who like hip hop are gansters carrying guns, nor wannabees. Although hip hop clubs might attract some of them, that's no reason for hip hop clubs to not exist. The music isn't causing the violence. Blame the idiots carrying the guns.

If any club or bar regardless of genre entails the requirement of metal detectors then said bar/club should not exist for the safety of the community.

I think that it's pretty common at clubs these days. I got searched at Stage AE to see Bright Eyes last summer.

You have to be a suburbanite for life. I have been in bars with metal detectors and such when I was young and stupid. There is LOTS of trouble in those places. I already said they WILL exist and always have. Some places that deal with that tough crowd can handle it pretty well, but this place didn't do a good job. You have to be very alert in such places. Any sign of trouble should have been seen before a situation happens. Used to be a bartender in a Sports Bar that had its share of fights. As a bartender, I always saw the fight coming before it happened. Fights don't just happen in a nanosecond. They usually happen in a series of events that leads to an outburst. Generally there is one aggressor looking for a fight. They are usually easy to spot by bartenders and even people in the bar.

Like I said, that place will reopen and if it happens again it will close down for good as a nuisance bar. Then some other place will reopen and cater to the metal detector crowd. That isn't the only one around you know.

Hopes, I would defend these places if they can't watch the crowd. There were mistakes made and those mistakes lead to a death.

Isn't that a concert venue? Concerts, Sporting events and such have searches and such going on. Not usually metal detectors though.

In my eyes anyways I see a differentiation between events/event venues & everyday bars with such requirements.

I don't think there is a difference for bars that have live music. Live music bars aren't everyday bars and can attract a different crowd each night depending on the featured entertainment. As a result, they should always be prepared for the worst just like event venues because bars with live music are actually small event venues.

I've been to about 70 concerts in my life and I've been patted down at nearly every one of them. Also, I agree with Hopes on this one, blame the idiot causing trouble and nothing more. I've been to tons of rap shows (Tech N9ne, Bone Thugs, etc.) and have never had a single issue with people there, it's the shows for main stream rock bands that I've had near-fist fights at.

Ironically, on the second floor of the club where the men were found shot, there’s a flyer on a wall that reads, “Always drink and shoot responsibly.” (from KDKA)
