I do indeed think being located between Downtown and Oakland is going to turn Uptown into a premium-priced neighborhood--eventually. How soon I don't know.

That's true about someone who owns many properties in the neighborhood, and is basically just sitting on them and letting them rot until he can sell them for a pretty price. Most of them are abandoned and being torn down. It's a shame. Those are historic buildings, some of which are among the oldest surviving in the city. Greedy people suck.

It's a shame two people were killed there in 2011... It's talked about as if it will be the great conector between DownTown & Oakland... Yet with dead prostitudes & drug dealers layed out in alleys, found in the daylight of the morning's makes it seem a lil' like the conector between the Hill & Oakland... Hopefully those are just uncommon isolated incidents because Uptown doesn't really seem dangerous, but just living in the part of Uptown further away from Duquesne, in the "red light district" is probably enough to make it seem currently undesirable to alot of people.

Also, I know a lot of people who seem to think that Uptown is the Hill District. They don't differentiate between the two neighborhoods. That may be a common misperception.

It's a shame this fell through. Financing was a part of it, but what kind of concerns me is the comment "concern about the location" One would think that a prospective developer would jump at this location. Maybe Uptown will not develop as quickly as we hope if everyone gets cold feet. Development near arena falls through

Back in the '60s and '70s, the area that is now called Uptown (a name I never heard before 1999) was called the Hill District.

To me it sounded like the deck was too expensive and in general these people may not have had a firm grasp on how to do a project like this.

Rooftop decks are the newest craze on Carson Street to allow for larger weekend capacity in the warm months. Some of the clubs like Villa put a tent up complete with electric heaters to keep using the space through the winter.

Uptown may get there too eventually, but obviously it is not yet an established nightlife destination like Carson Street.
