Anybody attempt to drive around this morning? I'm safely ensconced at home drinking coffee, but I live on a really steep hill and I'm pretty surprised at the number of people who are trying to drive up it. Most are failing. Thankfully none have ended up in my front yard.

Was surprised by this this morning. I looked out and said oh, I'm surprised it's warm enough to be raining. Then I looked at the P-G site and it said they were closing all the highways due to ice! The trucks from PennDOT and such apparently couldn't move on the roads either. Crazy.

The temp's getting up there a little more, though, 37 now and up to 45 in a few hours supposedly, so this should all be a memory soon if not already in most places.

Please, no runs on the bread, milk and TP.

We were going to go to Youngstown today but have decided to stay home. We pay great attention to the weather and the forecast and knew the freezing rain was a possibility but never expected this.

I had to go pick up some pizza because the drivers couldn't even make it to the store to start deliveries (the poor manager was on the phone trying to find someone who could make it in as I was paying for the 'za). Fortunately our immediate area doesn't seem to have any significant ice on the surface roads, and not a lot of people are out and about, so my drive was uneventful.

I posted about it in the other thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/pitts...ice-event.html

It was bad...

I posted in another thread too.

I attempted to walk outside my front door! Fell smack on my rear end! Thought I broke my hand!

I'm okay though.

I was up early because my son had plans to go skiing at Hidden Valley with a friend.

His friend insisted that he still wanted to TRY to make it.

I couldn't stop him from venturing out (not my kid and over 18), but I was confident he'd learn a thing or two riding from his house to our house!

It took him an HOUR to make the 5 minute trip to our house!

I swear he would have still tried to go to Hidden Valley if I hadn't told him that the highways and interstates closed.

We watched the traffic cameras on the highways and interstates and he finally realized I wasn't exaggerating.

Kids!

How about the salt trucks having to drive in reverse because they could not move in drive and needed the salt??? Wow! WPXI stayed with it all morning long while the other locals fed us the usual dribble. Thank you Channel 11!

I left the airport at 7:AM and rode the berm all the way to the Ohio river at 5 mph. There were cars spinning out in front of us, behind us, and along side of us. We ran out of rumble strips at the top of the hill just before the Vanport bridge. We sat there until 10:AM. The salt trucks were backing up all of the hills.

We finally got moving, and then had to stop again just after the Brighton exit. There was a salt truck on top of a little white car. Another salt truck came, and backed from Brighton all the way to the Chippewa exit while we followed. Roads were just wet after that. I got home at 11:30.

While sitting there, we tried to walk on the road. It couldn't be done without falling.

The funny thing is that the road was wide open. There was no traffic jam until the end. If somebody had the guts to go they could have tried. People were just smart enough to pull off and wait.

There was a Jeep CJ flying along where business 60 merges with I-376 near Hopewell. We saw him about a mile or so up the road, where he was piled into the guard rail.

This was the worst I have ever seen the roads. It was a pretty wild adventure that I don't ever want to repeat.

No. Just hurt that bad for the first half hour. It's still sore, but it works fine. It's just the heel of my hand. Thanks for asking.

I'm just glad I didn't crack my head open. My father worked with a man who slipped on the sidewalk downtown and died instantly.
