I said van this time but meant...whatever an escalade kind of car is. Anyway, I just saw live coverage of the area and there are indeed swat guys gearing up at the back of a couple of them so I guess they just sent more swat guys over. I'm used to seeing swat with the big box vans.

KDKA said there are over 200 police officers up in that immediate area around the hospitals.

I just saw a black hummer with black windows. That must be a special swat vehicle.

Both the City of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Police Department have the box like armored vehicles for SWAT operations you are mentioning. The teams are extensive in numbers, so the large SUV's you saw are transports for special operations like SWAT.

Ya I noticed that hummer on tv also, Hopes. Thanks for the clarification, Scott.

Now they're saying 9 shot, 7 wounded, 2 dead. Are you guys watching coverage? If so, are you finding any station better than another?

I'm at work in Cranberry, watching my phone and on my work computer.

Yeah, it was definitely a hummer. I saw the black armored vehicles that are shaped like armored trucks too.

The hummer was interesting. I could see it being useful since it's more compact.

From the helicopter news coverage you can see they have at least a couple k-9 units with them. Also, KDKA just had a first hand witness account just now - she said the pitt police were great and saved lives - that there were at least 30 shots fired as far as she could tell. That's an awful lot of gunfire in a relatively small area. Now they're busing staff and patients/families away from the hospital in pat buses.
