The hummer was interesting. I could see it being useful since it's more compact.

Can't wait to see that. I'm an emergency vehicle geek, I virtually grew up visiting my dad at his fire station and just love emergency vehicles of all kinds.

I'll have to check Google to see if I can find an image.

I haven't been hopping around. I'm stuck on KDKA out of laziness. They interviewed an eyewitness on the phone. She was in the lobby when it happened. She said that there were about 10 people in the lobby, most were employees. This dude walked in and just started shooting. She said the University police immediately engaged in a gun fight with the guy. (I guess University police are stationed in the lobby like guards.) She dropped the floor and got the hell out there. She said it was brought under control fairly quickly, which I think she meant the shooter was killed very quickly.

They've been showing it off and on on KDKA and rerunning tape so you might get lucky there. It's definitely been modified but it's a hummer of some sort.

Same here and I heard that interview and was impressed by how calm and well-spoken she was - particularly since she'd had bullets flying over her head not too long ago. That was a good, informative piece - she did their work for them!

Any idea yet what the motive might have been?

We were just told (by police and by UPMC folks) that they have no evidence of a second shooter, but SWAT is checking the building to be sure. Until that check is complete, we're still under lockdown.

(I work at the Med School, so I'm right across the street.)

No they aren't even speculating - and thank goodness for that because they are speculating and assuming a lot about other aspects of the story. They just make it up as they go and start rambling live on camera. The live reporting in the field seems heavily weighted toward the reporter's own perspective and interpretation (instead of just the facts).

Probably some less-marked cop vehicles of different types that went by here on the 10th St Bypass a while back were going there, since so much is concentrated there right now.

This doesn't transfix me enough to listen to the scanner feed though, or look for video, which I did during the G20 as Scott mentioned above. Of course, I was also home during the G20 so if I was home today, no telling whether I might have been drawn in more....

Very sad thing. Psych hospital, no telling what motives could be I suppose, for now, until they figure out who the shooter was.

Dang it, even watched video on KDKA and still didn't see it. I saw the Allegheny County SWAT vehicle out front but that's it.

yeah, this is a serious drawback of the 24 hour news cycle and it's only gotten worse with the advent of the internet. it's exciting to follow a story live but tons of misinformation is inevitably reported in a story like this.

it wasn't that long ago that people had to wait til the evening news, or even the next day's paper, to find out the details of a story. it's great to get news faster but in the rush to be the first to report the news outlets are super sloppy.

very few people even know who the shooter was so of course no one has any idea yet what the motivation might be. it will come in time, maybe.
