KDKA Radio and TV reported this morning that police in Pompano Beach, Fla., have arrested Ken Konias, the fugitive wanted in the killing of a fellow armored car guard and theft of $2.3 million.

An official in the Broward County, Fla., sheriff's department could not immediately confirm the arrest, but police in Pittsburgh confirmed that Mr. Konias was arrested overnight.
Lt. Kevin Kraus of the Pittsburgh police major crimes unit said Mr. Konias was being held in a Florida jail and that more information would be released later today.

Police sources said he had been talking about the heist to people in the house and someone called police.

KDKA quoted unidentified police sources as saying that Mr. Konias, 22, of Dravosburg, was apprehended in a crack house.

Isn't Broward County, FL basically Pittsburgh's personal retirement community? They have a couple of Primanti Bros. in Fort Lauderdale.

Me too, little scary that someone can escape the law for that long.

Especially one that has no special skills , Unless I'm proved wrong the kid wasn't a Jason Borne.

No, Ft. Lauderdale isn't Pittsburgh's retirement community. Yes there is a Primanti Brothers at the end of the strip, but most Pittsburghers migrate to the west coast along with the Midwesterners. Ft. Lauderdale/Miami are much more like the North East. Aggressive driving, fast moving and super busy. Usually not Pittsburgh's cup of tea.

Anyway, glad he was caught. He will be in jail the rest of his life for that one.

It will be interesting to read the details of exactly how he eluded capture for so long. Was he still driving the Ford Explorer or where did he hide it? Who helped him along the way and will there be any arrests? And will the FBI's gay theory be proven correct?

It's really not that long. I fully expected him to be on the run for years. He represents the growing number of stupid criminals these days. He must have a serious drug problem. I remember earlier on it was reported about him apparently being mugged or robbed or beaten in one of the older, run down communities along the Mon River. Seems as though his addiction over came his desire to not be found.

See, I had this whole film noir scenario built up in my head, where he checked into a small out-of the way hotel under an assumed name; a stranger he happened to meet guessed his secret and realized that nobody would miss him . . .

I like my story better.
