I am going to miss the post-game Morton interviews.

Right now I have no idea what to think. Even if Neal is clearing salary for an FA, Morton for a 34th round draft pick in A ball with the ceiling of a #5 is ridiculous. With the current price of starting pitching, Morton was underpaid. He's averaged 1.3 WAR over last three years and is one of only 89 starters to have logged 400+ innings over that time. Conservatively Morton had an excess value of $3 million, including his option year. That'll be more than Whitehead is worth.

Even back in the days when Neal was dumping salary for prospects, at least the guys he got in return had some upside. Doesn't appear to be the case here.

Dumping Morton isn't a horrible move. I'm surprised they found anyone to take on his contract. I don't see why the Phillies would want him.

If this move is a precursor to signing Kazmir or another quality free agent pitcher, then it's a good move. The Bucs HAVE to sign someone else, the rotation now is Cole, Liriano, Niese, Locke and no one. If they expect to fill this spot "internally" or with another dumpster dive free agent, then I'll get on erieguy's salary dump bandwagon.

Maybe they are freeing up money to sign Chris Davis to play 1st base! Haha, yeah right....

When they're consistently in the bottom of the league every year in payroll, it's not a bandwagon jump, it's reality.

I don't know what some of you guys think most teams are throwing out there as their 4th and 5th starters but Morton isn't bad. Hes better than Niese who is now our 3rd starter. Obviously better than Locke who is our 4th..

Like I said, there better be a long play here not 'pick up whoevers cheap when everyone else is done spending'.

Bucs aren't most teams. Only 5 other teams throw out less $$$.

They need one pitcher just to round out the rotation. All but no depth after that. I won't be surprised if another reclamation project fills the rotation. Not out of the question they'll sign a pitcher of some significance but not so likely as hoping that Searage can work some magic and save them more $$$.

You might get two good years out of Davis. Then you'll likely get five years of present-day Ryan Howard.

Good luck to whomever pays this guy $200 mill over the next 7 years.

Still less than it should be, but getting to 105m should be interesting to see who they pick up. Tough to believe Florimon is even mentioned.
