Yep--that is landscaping by lawyers.

It is actually "post and chain":

This is the general idea (hopefully they will spring for nicer posts):

oh, I was imagining a large chain link fence with barbed wire on top. I can live with that.

That's what I thought too, that would have been a complete disaster. Welcome to the city of Pittsburgh, where we surround our parks with prison fences to keep the people out...

Thanks for clarifying. That's acceptable.

i was thinking of seeing "Allegheny Fence Co" on a typical backyard fence.

that post/chain system is not bad - rather prim and well-suited for the area, actually.

but let me get this straight - that park WILL be open to the public, corrct? you can go there to sit and eat your lunch or catch a smoke or whatever?

I'm actually not 100% sure what legal regime they intend to assert. It sounded to me like they might try to distinguish the hardscaped paths through the park from the grass and planted areas (a "keep off the grass" sort of thing), although they could just have been referring to the sidewalks along the streets.

Not sure about the smoking, but according to the video in the article it will be open until dusk. They'll still have the discretion to close it "as needed", I'm sure, just like it's closed now.

I hope not. It will be a sad park if you can't sit on the grass.

Unfortunately to me it looks like they are trying to figure out how they could have the strongest possible argument for immediately evicting an "Occupy"-type protest, rather than how to have the nicest park.
