Denver, Memphis and St. Louis love their classic rock even more, though.

Combined Arbitron ratings for all Classic Rock radio stations in MSAs with 1,000,000+ population (June 2012)
10.7 - Denver
8.6 - Memphis
8.3 - St. Louis
8.1 - Pittsburgh

7.3 - Nashville
7.2 - Phoenix
7.1 - Houston
6.7 - Detroit
6.3 - Indianapolis
6.1 - Boston
6.1 - Minneapolis/St. Paul

5.7 - Kansas City
5.4 - Philadelphia
5.3 - Portland
4.9 - Las Vegas
4.9 - Sacramento
4.8 - Charlotte

3.5 - Miami
3.5 - Portland
3.4 - Chicago

2.3 - Salt Lake City
1.3 - Atlanta

And get this: Austin, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Hartford, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, New Orleans, Phoenix, Portland, Providence, Sacramento, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Seattle, Tampa/St. Petersburg and Virginia Beach/Norfolk all love their country music even more! That's a lot of cities that love country music more than Pittsburgh does!

Combined Arbitron ratings for all Country radio stations in MSAs with 1,000,000+ population (June 2012)
15.8 - Indianapolis
15.7 - Charlotte
15.1 - Nashville
15.0 - Kansas City
13.8 - San Antonio
13.2 - Columbus
13.0 - St. Louis

6.2 - Boston
6.2 - San Diego
6.0 - Denver
5.9 - Orlando
5.7 - Jacksonville
5.3 - Washington DC
5.1 - Philadelphia
4.1 - San Jose
4.4 - Chicago
3.4 - Riverside/San Bernardino
3.0 - Miami
2.8 - Los Angeles
0.5 - New York

On a related note, WYEP (91.3 FM) is classified as an Adult Album Alternative format, and it's far from the only non-commercial radio station of such a format. In fact, similar stations in Charlotte, Cincinnati, Dallas/Fort Worth, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City and Seattle are as well, plus one of the two stations in New York. Furthermore, the Arbitron ratings are lower in Charlotte, Cincinnati, Dallas/Fort Worth, Milwaukee, and both New York stations combined than they are in Pittsburgh.

So anyway, I know that it's rude to LAWL, but now you know why I can't help myself whenever I hear ignorant people claim that Pittsburgh enjoys classic rock and country too much, or exclusively.

Gotta say, I'm surprised about Denver. I never heard classic rock on the radio when I lived there. EVERYONE I knew listened to Country, though. Outings to the Grizzly Rose (a Country music dance hall) were popular. I can't say I recall a single classic rock station in Denver. Where the F do these ratings come from?

I love Classic Rock, but I hate Classic Rock radio (especially DVE). There's so much great rock from that late 60s - early 90s era... but radio limits itself to the same few dozen songs by the same handful of artists. "Here's Free Bird for the 4th time today!"

What's this "radio" of which you speak? Is it something new I can get on my phone?

Relatively speaking for country Pittsburgh doesn't rank that high based on the market category - though still a lot higher than it would have been 20 years where contemporary "country" started to get really big
(crappy pop music with enough twang to be country and too much to be pop).

- for classic rock - yeah that is high and not surprising at all.

KQMT (99.5 FM) and KRFX (103.5 FM) are both Classic Rock stations serving Denver. KQMT had a 5.7 rating in June, and KRFX had a 5.0 rating, for a combined rating of 10.7, which easily surpasses the 8.1 rating that WDVE had. Both Denver stations have playlists with songs from as early as the mid-1960's and as recent as the mid-1990's, but the majority of each playlist comes from the 1970's and 1980's, with KQMT having more of a 1980's bias and KRFX having more of a 1970's bias.

The top 10 songs listed on KQMT are:

1. "Devil Inside" - INXS
2. "Why Can't This Be Love" - Van Halen
3. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" - U2
4. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen
5. "On The Turning Away" - Pink Floyd
6. "What You Need" - INXS
7. "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" - The Police
8. "The One I Love" - R.E.M.
9. "Rocky Mountain Way" - Joe Walsh
10. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" - The Rolling Stones

The top 10 songs listed on KRFX are:

1. "More Than A Feeling" - Boston
2. "Every Breath You Take" - The Police
3. "Sweet Emotion" - Aerosmith
4. "Layla" - Derek & The Dominoes
5. "Don't You (Forget About Me)" - Simple Minds
6. "The Joker" - Steve Miller Band
7. "Life's Been Good" - Joe Walsh
8. "Tush" - ZZ Top
9. "Carry On Wayward Son" - Kansas
10. "The Logical Song" - Supertramp

To compare, the top 10 songs listed on WDVE are:*

1. "School's Out" - Alice Cooper
2. "All Along The Watchtower" - Jimi Hendrix
3. "Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)" - Neil Young
4. "If I Wanted Someone" - Dawes
5. "Sultans Of Swing" - Dire Straits
6. "Gold On The Ceiling" - The Black Keys
7. "Love Is Like A Rock" - Donnie Iris
8. "Saturday Night Special" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
9. "Rock And Roll All Nite" - KISS
10. "Just What I Needed" - The Cars

(*: The interactive playlist ranking I have has left the #6 and #9 positions vacant for some reason, so these are the top 10 songs that are actually listed.)

If anything, WDVE does a better job of including current rock in their playlist than either Denver station, considering Dawes and The Black Keys are both relatively new bands.
