Peduto's already making changes:

Quote:
The Buncher Company has agreed to put its plans for redeveloping the venerable produce terminal in the Strip District on hold while alternatives are explored, Mayor Bill Peduto said today.

After meeting with Buncher officials during his first full day in office, Mr. Peduto said he and the company will be meeting weekly to consider options for the Strip landmark, once the hub for produce wholesalers.

is peduto the guy who visited pike place and realized it's not much more "useful" than the produce terminal yet managed to become a huge draw for locals and tourists?

I can't find any quote like that. Can you provide a link? Here's the quote I found:
Quote:
He said he became energized about the potential for the terminal after a visit last month to Seattle's Pike Place Market, which at one point was targeted for demolition.

"It's now become one of the top tourist attractions and an iconic symbol of a new Seattle. We can do the same or even better with the Pittsburgh terminal building," he said.

What a strange idea. I wish they would just tear that thing down and create a grid to the river. Connecting the riverfront to the Strip would be great. That thing is just blocking the way. People do realize it is just some long loading dock don't they?

The developer is looking to receive Federal historic tax credits to help finance the project. They really couldn't tear down the edifice under those circumstances.

Yes, I am against this plan and development. To be honest, I am really against anything except taking that place down to have full access to the river. The Strip could really use a lift like that. That building is in the way of real progress.
