Can anyone tell me if commuting from Pittsburgh to Wheeling Hospital daily is do able? And if so what they are spending in gas.
This new job Im considering has a better pay and the hours are 7 am- 7pm some days and 7am-4pm other days.
Does anyone have any advice?

Which part of Pittsburgh exactly?

With a start time of 7am you should be leaving Pittsburgh early enough to avoid any serious traffic. I would look up the trip on google maps and see what it estimates, it will probably be pretty accurate since traffic isn't concern. The days you end at 4PM you will probably be hitting traffic on your commute home, which will be frustrating, but at least it won't make you late to work.

I've met people who do the opposite (Wheeling to Pittsburgh) and don't mind it, but it really comes down to personal preference. I know that would be way too far for me to do on a regular basis.

Im luckily not having to go thru the tunnels at all, so I think that makes it a lot easier.

I have looked it up and it says it should take about 54 minutes and around $10 a day.

Thank you, I appreciate your advice.
I have a few months to either move or work out the details, just need to come to a decision I guess.
Just wanted to see if anyone else out there experiences this daily.

An hour is definitely a long commute, but a lot of people do it for years. Seeing the busses to outlying areas like Greensburg, New Castle, Beaver Falls and Donora every afternoon, those trips are all longer than your trip.

Definitely need an economical car for that kind of commute 108 miles a day uses a lot of gasoline.

I commute 120 miles per day. My car gets a true 30 miles to the gallon. That's 4 gallons per day, 5 days a week equals 20 gallons per week. Gas has been going for anywhere between 3 and 4 bucks per gallon. Let's call it $3.50 per gallon.

20 gallons x 52 weeks = 1040 gallons per year. 1040 x $3.50 = $3640 in gas per year. I also replace tires once a year.

Now you have to ask yourself, does your car gets at least 30 miles per gallon, and is gas going to stay around $3.50 per gallon? You also have to ask if you are willing to spend 2 hours a day driving in all sorts of weather.

I bought my car new in 2007, and have over 190,000 miles on it. Is the amount of money your raise would be worth that kind of sacrifice?

Something else to think about.... You are currently paying a 1% wage tax to your place of residence. You will most likely pay another 1 or 2% to the City of Wheeling.
