Every first time visitor likes to ride one of the inclines, and then ride out to Primanti's on 18th Street for one of their famous sandwiches. On either end, at the Duquesne Incline or at the bottom of the Mon Incline at Station Square---or along Penn Avenue near Primanti's, you'll have plenty of opportunity to buy some Pittsburgh related crap to commemorate your visit and bring home.

The South Side is a touristy area with a lot of places to wet your whistle, I wouldn't have any problem going there but its crazy at night with lots of drunken fools walking around.

There are two St. Paul Lutheran cemeteries in Pittsburgh, one on Mt. Troy the other in North Baldwin. Both areas are plenty safe.
