As a few of you may know, I am considering moving to Pittsburgh in a year and I definitely appreciate all the questions yall have been answering for me. Now, I am curious how the hunting is near Pittsburgh or within a few hour drive of Pittsburgh. I know PA Game Commission has a lot of info on bag limits, etc. I'm just wondering how the locals like hunting. I read that PA has a lot of public land for hunting. Is this land worth hunting or is it full of other hunters? Thanks for any info yall can give!!

Hunting is popular in PA in general as it has the most licensed hunters of any state in the US & likewise very prevalent in the western part of the state here as well.

Mainly deer; also small game, pheasants, etc. Have to go a bit more then an hour out for any significant bear hunting.

Deer hunting is big around here, and you will find good hunting within an hours drive of the city. Even closer if you move to Soulless Cranberry.

I have several friends that hunt and I horseback ride on some property that belongs to a local hunting club. I live just about 20 miles south of the city. We have plenty of deer around here and field trials and birding with dogs is also popular in the area.

Hell, I seen plenty of deers in the City. I'm surprised more poaching doesn't go on, especially in Hazelwood (cause there's definitely not a shortage of guns there either).

Plenty in the 'burbs as well. I see about 10-12 every day on my property. Some even come up to the side entrance when the deck is snow covered.

There are two or three that bed down in my back yard about 50 feet from the house. Sometimes I catch them still napping when I take the dogs out.

Hunting is very big in Pennsylvania. Good hunting areas within an hour of the city, and many people keep cabins and camps further north near Cook Forest and the Allegheny National Forest.

PA has vast amounts of state owned Game Lands which are open to hunting. Many private property owners are supportive of hunters. The Game Commission also stocks pheasants during the season.

PA is much more hunter friendly than my current state of MD.
