Eastern Shadyside is very noisy during the day due to all the construction projects going on in the area, but I am not going to complain about it; I love seeing all the work going on. East Liberty will be a very different type of place 10 years from now.

Temporary construction annoyance, of course, but is that really why they had Negley/Roup closed between Centre & Baum today? I drove through there yesterday and didn't notice many, if any, potholes on that stretch. I could think of dozens of worse corridors for potholes right now just in the East End. They milled Mossfield Street between North Mathilda and Stanton Heights, so it's much better now. They likewise need to mill Shady Avenue between Forbes & Northumberland in Squirrel Hill. It's a nightmare. I wouldn't be so pothole-obsessed myself if I knew hitting one didn't cost hundreds of dollars in vehicle repairs.

I'm all for improvements, but if this is anything like since I moved here where one utility company will tear a street up, then repave it, only to have another one rip it up two months later and repave it, followed all over again by someone else who repaves it poorly then I'm tiring of it. Utility companies need to collaborate, focus on one block at a time, and revamp the heck out of all of their subterranean lines in unison.

man, have you noticed the milled section of negley and penn? it seems folks are scared to drive in that area, leading up to baum. they seem to forget that theres 2 lanes and ones for parking.

cant wait till they finish that section of the road because ppl are going too slow in fear of busting their tires when they get back onto the paved road.

You mean this place? It's called the Detective Building and it looks like the URA is buying it.

I wonder how difficult it would be to concert that building into apartments? Ill assume that the sale would include the parking spaces that surround the building.

It's only four stories, pretty small and horribly ugly; it's probably a better candidate for razing and putting something more interesting in its place.

Im a fan of adaptive reuse. Im also a fan of mid century architecture. The materials are better than what you would get from all new construction. The building looks sturdy and should be saved.

I've heard from people in the know that there is a lot of asbestos there. not as much as the highland building, but a lot.

I know they are are already looking for a new spot for the farmers market that is on the corner of Penn Circle. The other lots that the parking authority own are leased to UPMC as a shuttle lot and that lease ends soon - around the time the new parking garage in the hollow opens up. I'm sure some big things are going to happen around that area in the next 5 years. The Goodyear sold to a big developer from Sq Hill just a few years ago. it takes up the equivalent of an entire city block.
