Food critic =/= pastrami expert. Obviously, it's all a matter of personal taste. I'm just doubtful that their pastrami rivals the "idealized" NYC Jewish deli standard. I guess I'll know the answer sometime in October (when I plan on going back to PGH).

I've only ever been to the Squirrel Hill location, so I can't comment on its quality (or lack thereof), though I would assume that all the ingredients are the same. You also have to order the right thing. I wouldn't be surprised if their ham, green salads, burgers, etc. are sub-par. All bets are off when you go rogue . I wouldn't get an ahi tuna salad at Smallman Street the same way I wouldn't get brisket and latkes at a seafood restaurant.
