This will be a nice addition, especially for Point Park students. I still would like to see a sizable New York style deli Downtown. Sammy's makes a nice corned beef sandwich at a fair price, but is not the Carnegie Deli. Hundred Wood will help that part of Downtown.Owners of popular Market Street Deli to open Hundred Wood restaurant Downtown - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Hopefully, especially after a few craft brews they plan on serving.

Reading the article, it doesn't sound like they'll be offering much in the way of traditional deli fare (Jewish, Italian, or otherwise) but if the quality is good (it looks more like a bar food type of place), then sure, why not?

This place seems like a less fru-fru version of Iron Hill (Delaware Valley brewery/restaurant chain), which I do enjoy.

Pittsburgh doesn't really have the requisite demand for a Carnegie Deli-type place--at least not in this day and age (Jay has waxed on about the glory days of Weinstein's, which I'm sad I never got to try). Smallman Street is good enough to satisfy a fix, and Nu does provide an interesting nouveau-style take on traditional favorites.

I bet Cleveland has some really good delis (probably the suburbs more so than the city).

I'd be shocked if the corned beef and pastrami were better (Smallman isn't amazing, but it's decent enough--far better than Szmidt's, which some people on here have vouched for strongly). As for the other stuff, it's perfectly possible that they have better turkey, roast beef, tuna salad, etc., which are products that, while often done well by Jewish delis, are not ones over which Jewish delis more or less hold a "quality monopoly." I'm also a connoisseur for Jewish deli fare, so I willingly concede that my standards are much higher than most.

The menu is a bit schizophrenic, which makes me naturally wary. Nonetheless, the 96% urbanspoon rating makes it worth a try. When I have the occasion to go, I'll see if I can get something with corned beef or pastrami (which are bound to disappoint me) along with something like turkey or roast beef, which could very well be excellent.

I never had the corned beef or pastrami, but one of my workers is the biggest food critic i have ever met. He swears that they have the best pastrami he has ever had. If i mention we are going there for lunch, he is useless the rest of the day.

The only smallman street deli i went to is in the strip district. I dont know if the others are better. We asked for our money back when we left. The food was garbage.
