Someone already pointed this out, but the public garages are substantially under the market rate for parking downtown. Supply and demand is a rough mistress. Parking on the North Shore and taking the free T just became even more attractive, I'm sure.

haha, enough with the copy/pasting. Explain how bringing the public garages to market rates for parking is mismanagement?

Talking about pensions - that my friend is another issue.

More like 3000x's better. We may even have the worlds slowest light fair/subway system in the world.

It's not like people that take public transit aren't getting f*cked too though. Our prices are near NYC level ($2.75 there versus $2.50 here) and routes have been getting worse since 2006. Everyone is getting the short end of the stick.

maybe companies here should do what a lot of companies do in DC: either pay your parking or pay for your public transit.

Pitt and the other universities will pay your public transit.

I must be a fool, have low expectations, or am very lucky....my bus stops at the same street corner every morning at approximately the same time, and drops me off there again in the afternoon. Sometimes it is a min or two late, sometimes it doesnt come at all, but in 10 mins another one comes, and I am still alive when that one comes.

As for parking rates, it seems like a big jump, but I work with people that could easily grab the same bus as me, and be at work in less time...but they like having their car downtown, but then complain about how much they have to pay.

It is going to come down to some very difficult decisions for some people. If you cannot afford to drive to work anymore, you can switch to public transporation, and if that is not an option, you can either find a new job, or move to an area that has reliable service. These may be decisions that people don't want to make, but they are options.
