Weird how this isn't on the national news....

Quote:
With fewer stories about Iraq in the media, many Americans are not aware of the great improvements there. Al Qaeda no longer has substantial control of any area of Iraq, normal citizens—Shiite and Sunni—have united to form over 300 neighborhood security groups, the Iraqi Army is increasingly conducting anti-terrorist operations on its own, and violence has dropped to two-thirds of what it was a year before. Not long ago, it seemed as if we were on the verge of defeat; now it is likely that Iraqis and Americans together will subdue al Qaeda and other radicals in Iraq and build a peaceful and tolerant society.

It would be a great day when our troops can come home.

Funny thing is I am ambivalent on the war, but I grasp that it isn't as bad as the media wants us to think.

Best friend is over there right now serving with the Marines in Fallujah and it really isn't that bad,not as bad as his first tour anyway.

Doesn't make it a cake walk of course.

Good news is he is coming home early he thinks.

Fallujah is not nearly as dangerous as most of the rest of the country. Try the north.

Have the death and dismemberment rates dropped?

Before the war, 'Al Qaeda' didn't control any parts of Iraq. Iraq is a catastophic mess, and a thousand times worse than before the war began.

This is why such claims are not on the national media.

Yep. How to make a relatively secular Muslim nation with no terrorist links in the first place into one which harbours fundamentalists in one easy lesson. Success indeed.
Billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of lives lost , an entire nation in ruins, infrastructure bombed back to the stone age, and we should be celebrating ? And Iran and Iraq miraculously now closer than they have ever been thanks to a huge blunder. How much safer for us all indeed.

For a war which has no basis in the first place ? Who on earth can actually believe this is good news. All this horror could have been avoided had common sense , truth and facts about Iraq prevailed. But no that would have just been way too easy to actually go after the real culprits .

Yes the troops have done a great job. Sadly, issues such as the minority Sunnis being kept out of power by the Shiite dominated government and the Shiite militias arming themselves for a Hamas like movement after our troops leave ensures they will not be leaving for a long time yet due to Iraqi politics, despite having completed their military mission.

Could be why it is not in the news. Nobody wants to admit the timeline for withdrawal is entirely out of our hands and in the hands of Iraqi politicians and warlords.

If this is true then we should pull out. We captured Hussein. What more do we want? As Ron Paul says, "enough of this Nation building!".
