There's a lot of articles relating to this, so I'll just link to the most recent one: Trustees to discuss eyed sale of park - Meadville Tribune : Local News.

I've never seen it mentioned or discussed on City-Data, so I'm just curious what people have to say about this amusement park.

For anyone who hasn't been there, and is interested in seeing it, it is still open. Parking and admission are free, you just pay for what you ride, play, eat and buy. I made the trip up this past weekend and am glad I went, but then again I'm the sort of person who can look at "ruin porn" and appreciate it for what it used to be.

My question for the long time residents is how important was Conneaut Lake Park to Pittsburghers? Obviously Kennywood is an institution, and I've seen the WQED special on West View Park, which also seems to be remembered fondly. Does Conneaut Lake Park share the same spot in people's hearts? I wonder if it is better or worse to see it in such sad shape now? It seems to be going out with a barely a whimper instead of a bang.

My guess is a corp will purchase the property, tear down most of the buildings, and build high end condos on the site.

I would rather see it become a state park but there is too much money involved. The land is too valuable.

Conneaut Lake Park used to be great and as a kid I loved going to Conneaut, even more than Kennywood. It has been truly devastating for me to see Conneaut Lake Park fall into disrepair and it is now basically a shell of what it used to be even 10 years ago. I think for me Conneaut was so special because I loved going to visit my family who lived in the area and we could always go to the park during off peak hours and basically ride the rides as much as we wanted. I had a season pass for several years and got some serious use out of it. Sadly I am not sure what can be done to save Conneaut because it seems so far gone at this point. Recently, I have had the pleasure of going to Waldameer a few times and it is amazing how well everything has been kept up and there are even plans for expansion in the near future. I think Waldameer's location near a state park probably has helped preserve it better than Conneaut because there is very little public access to Conneaut Lake and unless you vacation in the area it seems that people would rather go to Kennywood or Cedar Point.

As a Catholic school child, I went to West View Park.
As a teen, it was Kennywood.
Interspersed throughout was White Swan Park.

I never went to Conneuat Lake Park..... even when living in northern Beaver County.

Conneaut was a ton of fun as a kid. The "Blue Streak" will always be a great memory.

Went to Kennywood once. Went to Conneaut Lake a dozen times at least. Pittsburgh was a "journey" from above I80, Conneaut not so much.

Went often as a youngster and teen in the 60s and 70s. People vacationed closer to home back then. They were just building interstates, so it took longer to get to places. I think Geauga Lake and Sea World hurt Conneaut (both now closed). Now people go to Disney, Cedar Point, the outer banks, and Florida.

On a camping trip to Pymatuning, with my uncle and a couple of my cousins, the best part of 50 years ago, we went there, and found it closed. Was it less than a seven day a week operation? We were pretty disappointed, whatever the reason. Never made it back...

Depends on what time of year, I think.
