Look up freezing chocolate. You might be able to use it next year.

Thanks for the idea, but it wouldn't be worth the freezer space. Freezer space is at a premium in my house because I make homemade cat food and buy a lot of meat in bulk.

I was mostly just surprised because it's such a starkly small fraction of kids compared to most years.

And they wonder why kids are so fat. NO ONE would EVER drive kids around back in my day. We walked in the rain and LOVED IT! Oh and sometimes snow and WE LOVED IT! Strange society I guess. Fun is over! Maybe someone will slip and fall and that loser Edger Snyder will have his day. Oh well, I am thankful for my days as a kid. It sucks these days. Thank you ambulance chasing attorneys for destroying life.

It wasn't like this the last three years, not to this extent anyway. I think it's the old "rain = kids will get sick" canard, rather than them being against the kids walking around in general.

I'm at the office right now, but my partner was standing in front of the house in the rain doling out candy. According to Facebook he passed out candy to at least seven children, and, better yet, he met a whole bunch of our neighbors who came over to chit-chat, one of whom invited us already to their Christmas soiree.

I bought candy out the wazoo thinking perhaps Hill District parents who wouldn't feel safe taking their kids around would drive here to Polish Hill so their kids could have a nice Halloween. It sounds like the rain and cold weather really put a damper on things, though.

Polish Hill hasn't had many children living up there since their only school, Immaculate Heart, was closed during the Carter Administration. The Hill District isn't that terribly much better in the number of children, since they've razed many of the housing projects.

We had 43 kids. Which was good since we only had 44 bags of candy.

No dropoff, despite the weather. In fact up a little from last year.

Don't be so sure. Growing up in Beaver County, some parents drove their kids even back in the 60s. I don't remember it ever snowing. I mostly remember being too hot in my costumes.

There was a group of children walking down the street and a car was crawling slowly behind them. I told the children to get off the street so the car would pass, and an adult with the group said the car was one of theirs. Who the hell follows their children in a car in the middle of the street? I'd hate to be a car stuck behind them needing to go somewhere. Why would they do that? Why couldn't their children simply walk with their parents and move to the side of the road when a car came? It didn't make sense. I couldn't have been the only person who was alarmed and worried the children were going to be run over by the car they appeared to be blocking.

I had a boatload of kids here in Brighton Heights. I was surprised since a neighbor had told me not to expect many. It started at 5:30 and by 6:40 I had gone through 220 pieces of candy (I started out 2 or 3 pieces per kid and then dropped down to just one when it became clear that I hadn't bought enough). They were still coming pretty strong when I went inside; I'd estimate about 150-200 kids total. I didn't see parents driving kids around other than a few who dropped them off and left.

This was my first time doing it as an adult. I was a little worried it would be weird since I'm a young guy with no kids, but it was definitely a fun time.
