I think you have to get a permit for such a thing. But how long are they allowed to sit? I see a lot in the 10th Ward, and some of them just seem to sit there for months and months and are rarely used or not being used at all.

The person probably went on a long vacation and didn't think a lawn chair would hold up for that long to hold their parking spot.

The permit has a duration. If it's blocking metered spots, the permit cost + the lost meter revenue is paid.

I wonder if the meter part is enforced....there's a dumpster on 14th & East Carson St that's about 2 vehicle lengths that's been there since November in paid spaces. Would seem cost prohibitive if they had to pay the meter revenue as well. (they're gutting the building at the corner)

Hopefully they get back in time to use it for the Kenny Chesney concert.

It is enforced. The meter fee is paid up front with the permit fee.

Yea, nm, doing the math, I guess an extra $2000 added to the cost of a remodel for parking the dumpster on the street for a few months isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things to the owner.

the rental cost on the dumpster will cost alot more than parking in no time flat, when you get a permit to take up parking it is not much money. the city doesn't figure on lost meter revenue unless it changed recently.

I have gotten permits, mostly in Oakland, for dumpsters to sit in metered spots. Each time, the lost meter revenue was figured and added to the permit cost.
