The USW's strike of the oil refining industry since early February is getting quite the buzz in the towns where the refineries are. The USW's headquarters is in Pittsburgh. How do y'all feel about it? When gas and heating fuel prices go up will you feel differently?

The point of strikes is to cause pain and make the employer settle. A strike without disruption is one the boss can safely ignore.

Godwin's law doesn't even make it past the initial post ; besides haven't you heard, we're swimming in cheap natural gas up here.

Too many workers are crossing the picket lines for this strike to have much of an effect here in Texas so far.

True enough, but the key is to inconvenience the employer not the general public.

If you inconvenience the general public too much, you'll alienate them.

Most facilities here have a comfortable balance of staff and workers who crossed the picket lines running things so very minimal inconvenience so far. Surprisingly the media has largely lost interest in the story.

Given the above description there doesn't sound like there's any story of note to report on?

'Striking workers cause very minimal inconvenience, next at 5' just isn't going to bring any ratings in.

Personally this is the first I've heard about it.

Not surprising, we don't have any oil refineries in the area, unless someone is holding shares in oil concerns, it is probably off the radar.

The USW headquarters here doesn't have a large staff, and I'm sure most of those folks are more concerned with paying the health claims of their members, collecting/investing dues money and lobbying politicians, the usual business of an international.
