Is it just me, or are they going back up, AGAIN? If so, WHY? I thought they were supposed to be under $2 by either Labor Day or the end of the year?

It's just you. Prices have dropped about 20 cents a gallon in the last month or so.

The reason I asked is because I live in West Mifflin and just a couple days ago it seemed like some gas stations had gas prices under $2.79 and now it seems like $2.79 is the cheapest you can get here.

For some reason gas is $2.95 at the GetGo in Shadyside and $2.79 at the GetGo in Squirrel Hill. It's quite frustrating that Lower East Enders don't have to pay as much as we Upper East Enders.

Gas is less than $2.30 if you're over in East Liverpool or Toronto.

State gas taxes are high in PA compared to other states.

It's $2.95 at the GetGo in Regent Square also. I've been hearing about gas prices dropping, but I sure haven't seen it.

I can't imagine that we'll ever see gas prices below $2 again.

My parents live in Ohio, and gas there is regularly $.20-.30 cents cheaper there than it is here. Something about coming from Midwestern rather than East Coast refineries.

It is the gas tax. PA has the highest gas taxes in the nation. We will never be lower than Ohio unless Ohio goes Blue.

Pa. gas taxes are highest in the nation, according to GasBuddy | PennLive.com

I personally don't mind paying higher gas prices in general since I'm starting to see the fruits of that being reaped in terms of more state road/bridge maintenance projects occurring in recent months. I'm just incredulous as to why gas can be $2.95/gallon in Regent Square (GetGo), $2.95/gallon in Shadyside (GetGo), and $2.79/gallon in Squirrel Hill (GetGo) when all three neighborhoods are in such close proximity. I've noticed the Squirrel Hill GetGo is BY FAR always the cheapest in this part of the city. What gives? Competition from the CoGo's in Greenfield? I hate the thought of paying $2.95/gallon because the thought of driving out of my way to save $0.16/gallon (roughly $1.50 per fill up) makes it not worth it to me. I've chided GetGo before for their weird out-of-whack gas pricing in the East End, and I'll gripe to them again I suppose.

Since you are driving past both stations all of the time in your travels on the job, why don't you just stop by the Squirrel store and fill it up when you are going by, even if you still have a quarter tank?

Sometimes local gas skirmishes cause these kinds of fluctuations. A few months ago, the price of gasoline was a lot less at the FC Get Go than it was a few miles away at the Harmar Store or Sheetz in East Deer.

You'll have this kind of circumstance from time to time.
