Let's keep it apples-to-apples, all.

Comparing London and Pittsburgh is preposterous, while comparing NYC to Pittsburgh makes perfect sense.

if its a Busway ... The Bus .... NYC subway, I could still be stuck waiting at WTC because of constant and frequent delays through the System, while a P1 would be halfway uptown around 81st and CPW.

Busways don't have to wait on signal problems, don't have to wait for Buses in front of them to move first, don't have to deal with Sick Passengers holding up the entire line, Don't have to deal with Holding of the Doors. Plus the busway can get up to 70-75 mph, NYC subway does 50 tops because of speed controls.

Subways advantage is being able to move more people in a single space over Buses.... you need 10 accordion buses to do the Volume of what 1 Subway train can, fortunately Pittsburgh doesn't have 20 million Metro Population.

The busway busses have those problems... because they are not 100% contained to the busway.

We're talking about Busways vs Subways. Busways themselves are more efficient, have more vehicle capacity, more flexibility, less prone to Delays and Re-Routings.

I think you're too down or New York's subway. Not only is it the best system in North America, but it compares favorably to most of the major European cities. I definitely preferred it to Paris and London.

I'll second that. The London underground used to close down at midnight and is only just starting to introduce night services.

NYC subway is a superb system. Few at a similar scale are better,

Yeah. Try comparing Penn Station to a concentration camp to any number of LIRR commuters. You'll have your head handed to you.

I lived the NYC subway everyday and still do when I'm in NYC ..... Its the most Vast in its coverage, Yes ... but to say its the "Best" in its current condition would be a gross exaggeration... The current conditions of the NYC Subway has some serious structural issues, it is in a state of despair.

NYC infrastructure as a whole is Terrible, its underfunded, not maintained, severely antiquated, causes serious delays.

In my office start time is 9:30am .... but because of the Vast Delays and infrastructure problems that occur on an almost daily basis in NYC, we allow folks a 1/2 hr buffer before we actually consider someone to be late. People don't notify anyone of lateness unless they're going to arrive at work Past 10am. We don't schedule any Meetings or Conf. Calls until 10-10:30am, nothing ever starts at 9:30.

Here in my apt in the Burgh, I don't get online until 10am because I know no ones looking for me until that time.

AM Heavy Rain in NY, forget it ... No Ones going to be on time.

Having 24/7 system is a blessing and curse .... which is why London system runs more efficiently, has less delays, less emergency maintenance, because they shut it down at night and give it proper maintenance ... Its easy to sit here and say NYC is "Superb" when you speaking from your couch in Pittsburgh, or only a visitor of NYC.

Live in NYC for 13 years and tell me its still "Superb"

Not sure what you're getting at ... Have you ever been in Penn Station at 5pm, when a Train breaks down in the Tunnel and there are massive delays.... If anything the description of a Concentration Camp would be putting it mildly, that place is Sheer HELL!

Btw - I just took this snapshot from the MTA's website ... Real Time

So to clarify, you're stating that the transportation infrastructure in Pittsburgh is better than it is in NYC?

Transportation infrastructure in the US as a whole is deplorable .... Neither Pittsburgh or NYC is an exception to this ... Even more so because both are older, pre-automobile cultured cities.

Whatever infrastructure problems you think we have in the Burgh, is nothing like it is in Lager cities with the same or even greater deficiencies.
