I think a lot of the reason it never caught on to being a "Pittsburgh" show is because it had little to do with Pittsburgh, wasn't filmed here, Beaver Falls is almost an hour away from Pittsburgh, and Beaver Falls is not really an upper middle class area (nor was it back in the 80's either). There's not a lot of Pittsburgh authenticity to the show that locals here could or would identify with.

I think Pittsburghers already have other movies and shows that they've found more common ground with and have taken on more of that identity. Pittsburghers are proud of a lot of the movies shot here (especially the numerous George Romero movies - Pittsburgh is the unofficial zombie capital of the US), and it's easy to idolize figures like Mr. Rogers who got his start here and spent many years being truly part of Pittsburgh.

I'd be curious about how Scranton feels about The Office though. It wasn't filmed there, but they worked pretty hard to play geography into it (even with subtle queues like Yuengling placement, Froggy, etc.).

I just think Mr. Belvedere is truly disconnected from the Pittsburgh.

If anyone wants to catch an episode, they still run it every Sunday on Antenna TV from 4 to 5PM EST. (Verizon 466)

I know.

I'm seeing some interesting responses so far, and also learning about some shows I wasn't aware of with a connection to Pittsburgh and other cities.

The Mr Belvedere I'm familiar with was a kitchen/bathroom remodel contractor in Detroit, 1960-70's era. His decendants now inhabit Ft Myers FL area. He did a lot of local television advertising back then.

Never heard of a sitcom by that name. But saw the thread title on the top of the forum as I was scrolling thru, and it sparked a memory from long ago.

There was a Mr. Belvedere reference on The King of Queens.

Mr. Belvedere was on a decent number of years but barely remember it as being relevant to da 'burgh. Gotta love Bob Uecker and the movie Major League always reminds me a lot of the Bucs.

I remember the movies being much better than the series.

[offtopic]I was driving on I-79 last night and there was someone with a Michigan plate that said "MR PANTS". He was driving a truck and looked like the remodeler type. I wonder if he got the idea from the old TV commercials.

Either way, Mr. Pants is a pretty sweet name. His first name must be Smarty.[/offtopic]
