Chipping away at Prohibition | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

New law summary from Turzai:
- Wine will be available at grocery stores and six-pack shops.
- State store hours of operation will be expanded on Sunday and holidays.
- Consumers will be permitted to receive a direct shipment of wine.
- Pricing will be more flexible.

I'm not quite clear on direct shipment policy yet. Is it going to be limited to shipments from/via state stores or can I finally order my wine from merchants in other states without state store markups.

Does this mean I can get a $3 bottle of wine at Trader Joes, like in other cities?

Still waiting on the day I can open a small storefront that stocks hard-to-find bottles of liquor.

this is dope. seems like a rare win-win here. We protect good paying state store jobs with benefits, and the consumers get the flexibility they wanted.

They should also allow mild drugs like pot in stores, the more drugged folks are the less they complain about low wages and crime and dirty streets.

I like the way you think, but why stop with mild ones? Oh wait, I get it. Those evil store pharmacies...

Beer distributors are not going to be real happy. People being able to buy beer in convenience stores or gas stations will no doubt hurt their business. Im all for it, but I sympathize with the family run owners who built their business around a state forced system and paid a hefty sum for a license, that will now get the rug pulled out from under them.

the other one I see as interesting is the casinos will be allowed to serve alcohol 24-7. I can see the lines of people funneling into Rivers from all areas around 2-230am friday and saturday night. Im sure the novelty will wear off, but in the short run, it will probably be a mess.
