Have some visitors coming from out of town and looking for an area where there are a lot of bars/restaurants, etc within walking distance. If anyone's been to Houston, something similar to Rice Village.

One of the visitors is 50-60 hence the "no college scene" bars.

Any suggestions?

Even the bars that you may consider "college scene" will not be, as many students are home for the summer.

DH and I are in our 60s and love that kind of bar, as they usually have good live music!

The Pittsburgh Jazzlive festival is this weekend so Market Square and the Cultural district will be packed Fri-Sun. Lots of dining in the area as well. The festival Kicks off Friday with a Jazz Crawl throughout the cultural district followed by a tribute to Prince with a dance party in the streets.

You might try the Northside, especially the James Street Gastropub. Not nearly as much going on as the Cultural District, which is a great idea, but still a nice spot and walkable to some nice places, and some good dives. Another good area is the Strip district; I'm a fan of Bar Marco. And of course there's always Lawrenceville...

LOL!
That was going to be my suggestion, before you said "no college scene" bars.
School is out, so it won't have as many college kids... but it will still be a younger crowd.

Yeah I was originally ruling it out until the "schools out" was mentioned. We've been to Marios during the day (since its the Bills backers bar) and enjoyed it; just not sure how it is on a Saturday night. Likewise with Local. Then i've seen Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh mentioned before, and it has good yelp reviews, so it was another consideration. Any feedback on those locations, or others nearby? Having an outdoor patio or rooftop is always a plus (understandably less common in southside)
