Always wondered if PIT should have a catchy name. Boston has Logan, NYC has JFK, Chicago O'Hare. But Fred Rogers? Doesn't do it for me.

Petition started to rename Pittsburgh airport Fred Rogers International Airport | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Why not? It would probably become Rogers Airport (no one calls Logan the General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport). Fred Rogers had a strong connection to Pittsburgh and did a lot of good in the world. This seems like a great idea.

Isn't there already a Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City?

I'm more of a fan of the Fred Rogers Children's Museum (North Side) and then Andy Warhol International Airport.

I can see the welcoming sign at the terminal:

Would You Like To Be My Neighbor?

Yeah, doesn't appeal to me, it would kind of make the airport seem small-time. Why not name a children's museum or something like that after him instead.

Small time? Fred Rogers received the Presidential Medal of freedom and a Peabody Award, along with many other awards. He played a significant role in saving PBS back in the late 1960s. His television show ran for more than 30 years and was watched by multiple generations of chidlren. His work in support of the healthy development of children was honored by the U.S House of representatives. I cannot imagine what someone has to do to be considered 'big time'.
