While there are certainly many many reasonably priced restaurants in NYC (especially including the outer boroughs) there is no Pittsburgh restaurant that comes close in price to what you can pay in the top NYC restaurants like Le Bernadin, Per Se, Masa, etc.

We went to a small Italian place where they served an entire plate full of pasta on an actual plate. We paid for real meals on real plates!!! -I'm so burned out from overpriced hipster food.

Two friends and I went out for lunch this past weekend and enjoyed very good food, generously portioned and spent less than $40 between us. None of us had any alcohol but the place is very reasonably priced on all of it's items.

Personally I look at what the prices are on things before I order. I have an idea of how much I want to spend and I plan so that I don't exceed that. I try to learn something about the place I might go to before I go so I have an idea of their menu and pricing. Thanks to smart phones and google this is pretty easy to do on the fly. If a place is more expensive than I can comfortably afford I don't eat there.

I love Sewickley I stay at a friends there sometimes, but some of the places are way overpriced. I've probably been to at least half of them. I would never order wine at most of the places there, eat maybe, order wine? Never. I know what I'm getting into, if I don't I'll ask and want the price for anything alcohol related. You can get a good mixed drink at some of the sushi places there for less than 10 bucks. The golden rule always holds true, they don't call it happy hour for nothin'. Nothing good happens after 8pm, when it's your wallet in Sewickley. There's a couple of exceptions there though.
