Are there any options? It looks like Greyhound and Mega bus don't allow pet dogs.

Amtrak allows dogs up to 20 pounds, but on trips that are 7 hours or shorter only. Pittsburgh to NYC is over 9 hours. My guess is you could buy an Amtrak from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg, and then purchase another ticket from Harrisburg to NYC. I would call Amtrak. Other than that, your only other option would be a rental car or there are shipping services for animals you could use.

Oh my dog is 26 lbs. I wonder if they actually check the weight.

Tell them it's only 19 pounds of dog and the rest is smuggled elephant tranquilizer in little balloons.

I doubt it, but maybe a recon trip is in order, just go from the nearest station to the next & return.

I think if your dog is in a crate or carrier and is quiet and well-behaved, you likely would not have any problem with taking him/her on Amtrak. I don't know if they'll let you do so on the Pennsylvanian to NYC, however. You could book to Harrisburg on the Pennsylvanian, and then transfer to a Keystone Service train to get to NYC.

That could be difficult and inconvenient coming from Pittsburgh, though. The schedules don't make the return trip possible without a LONG layover. For instance, to go from Pittsburgh to Greensburg, you catch the Pennsylvanian at 7:30 AM. The scheduled departure for the return from Greensburg to Pittsburgh is not until evening (something like 7:45 PM). Might be a bit better on the westbound Capitol limited, but it would involve doing it in the middle of the night. The westbound train arrives around midnight; the return train gets back to Pittsburgh around 5:00 AM.
