Apparently, Rob Rogers was fired by the P-G today.
I know his previous claims of 'censorship' stirred up a lot within local political circles.

Personally, I found his politics to be a bit far to the left and didn't care for his style of drawing. Will be interesting to see which direction the P-G goes with, in terms of editorial cartoons, moving forward: a conservative, a moderate, or a closer-to-the-center (compared to Rogers) liberal.

Well, here we go, two Trump supporting newspapers. Or maybe Nutting bought the PG and is getting rid of all the good players.

I never noticed these cartoons. I doubt I'm the only one. This may account for his firing.

So when you read the opinion page, you never look at the cartoon located at the top of the page?

You joke, but I had a friend that was a photographer for the Herald Standard. Nutting purchased the paper & all the photographers were fired within 30 days & with the reporters now required to take photos with their phones when covering a story.

If these were ordinary times, this wouldn't be a big deal. But these are not ordinary times. Political cartoonists are supposed to draw satire and lampoon. It's been done for hundreds of years. Those getting lampooned may not like it, but they don't attack the press and call them the enemy of the people, fake and dishonest. So when a political cartoonist does what he or she is supposed to do and the president has paper-thin skin and is friends with the owner of the paper, it calls into question whether that powerful person is on a campaign to not only discredit the press, but to make sure those criticizing him are silenced. This is not a good sign for the free press or the First Amendment.

No surprise there. But, with so many people these days only listening to talk radio and TV for their news along with the internet, I guess it's just a matter of time until newspapers are history.

Awards these days are political. Meaningless.
