My wife and I are looking at some houses in the East Allegheny School District. We have lived in the Pittsburgh area our whole lives, but have never known someone who went to East Allegheny and we haven't heard any stories. Anyone have any information? Thanks.

East Allegheny, like many smaller school districts in Allegheny County, is struggling financially to meet the mandates of both the federal and state governments. With a fragile local tax base, that offers little in terms of growth and long term financial stability, school administrators walk a tightrope of budget uncertainty. East Allegheny is the product of a once very proud community, with many of its populace employed through the steel mills and Westinghouse, jobs long gone. They were also the unwilling recipient of a partial "forced merger" with the Duquesne School District, requiring EA to educate high school students from this impoverished/ educationally insolvent district. EA has many financial obstacles in both its immediate and long-term futures, and will most certainly need some form of governmental relief to maintain financial solvency.
