i get enrichment from eschaton's posts, generally. so i wouldnt say 'simpleton', but instead, what ive suspected for years from college educated white, middle class liberals - naivete. that is not an insult or mud slinging. i just feel some people who would likely be labelled as "progressive" are naive.

and, not that there is anything wrong with not having been in a position of long term economic struggle (ie poor), but also some of these people might have a different perception of things if they were at any time in their life part of the urban poor. in other words - "sheltered", perhaps.

It really has become bizarro world in this forum lately. some other agency besides police suggested to make traffic stops? lol. if they could even get anyone else to do it, (which they couldn't) that would last about 1 or 2 weeks, until the first trouble happened, and then you would have exactly nobody willing to do it after that.

and it's just absolute fact that not enforcing traffic laws would kill many more innocent people.

the media certainly do drive a lot of people to ridiculous ideas, by creating societal hysteria about unpleasant facts of life.

They enforced over 220,000 citations across the state via technology based means and over 20,000 of those was on a stretch of i79 alone. You don’t need an officer pulling people over for petty crimes when they’re bigger fish to fry. Let alone technology would be more affective in the long run.

The point is, you don’t need physical cops doing the job or a great amount less attention to them and focus on other duties.
lol. that is mainly a financing scheme. it does not affect points on your license and it cannot determine who was driving in most cases. and of course it would only even be possible in a pretty small percentage of locations.

it might deter law abiding people from risking a fine, but it would not be a deterrent to scofflaws and outright criminals, who are the main problems.

what you refer to as "petty crimes" can and do kill innocent people on a daily basis. many traffic violations are petty, but many are also not.

Does not dispute my point that the technology can easily replace the function discussed in the news article on the main post. Also, they can easily flip the switch to make it count against points after a certain number of citations. Again, not a concern that a cop needs to be present for.

Again, not every traffic violation leads to a death. Let’s stop glorifying the issue and taking the extremes here to somehow make your point. By law, a bulk of these citations are petty crimes. Which again, not sure what a cop would do anyways in those situations that tech cannot.

nobody said anything remotely like every traffic violation leads to death.

so you actually think they can have cameras EVERYWHERE, and determine who the driver was ? HAHAHHAHAHAAAA

1984 wasn't meant to be an instruction manual

Again, not sure how this even helps your point. Seems you are grasping at straws. I can easily turn this around on you and state something simple like “YOU THINK THEY CAN HAVE COPS ON EVERY STOP SIGN AND BLOCK?! OMG THE FUNDING!” - see how simple that was? Please stop with this pettiness.

you didn't even answer the questions, stop being ridiculous. fines in the mail are not a deterrent to the real dangerous people on the roads. and they can't even determine who the actual driver was in most cases. even a drop of common sense would tell you that.
