I am a born and raised Cheesehead now living in Pittsburgh. (about 2 years) I really only follow the NFL, so the Packers are my NFC team and the Steelers are my AFC team now. The Packer and Steeler fans are so much alike it amazes me.

I rooted for the Steelers a year or so before I moved here. They played and won in the Superbowl, and i did not want Mike Holmgren (ex-coach of the Packers) to win outside of Wisconsin.

My son goes to college in Wisconsin and he grabbed a terrible towel when he was visiting, and now all his friends want them!

It only makes sense some people are loyal to their first teams. I am originally from Brooklyn and still love the Dodgers- ok they moved but guess what so did I -- many times! Those players from my youth Koufax and Drysdale - stuck with the team- and didn't jump ship every year. Nowadays one never knows who your team will have.

In basketball I had saved $600 in my jr yr of high school and became an original owner of the Seattle Super Sonics I always liked them until greedy owners forced a buyout- Now look what's happened to them.

In football I often like teams with players from my colleges . Pittsburgh when they had Randle El. ( Indiana) GB with Aaron Rodgers ( Cal Berkeley) Buffalo - Marshawn Lynch (Cal) KC Tony Gonzalez and about 5 other teams with Cal or IU players. Football changes more rapidly for me.

Bottom line there are other motivations than where you're at at the moment for picking teams.

Good Points, Ocean... as a native texan, I will always be first & foremost, a Cowboys fan, but my loyalties are varied:

NY Yankees : Why? - - Because the Yankees are a microcosm of everything that is good AND bad about baseball... they ARE "baseball"....

STL Cards: Why? - - The cards have a long history of great management and talent, and have the largest radio network in the country, reaching over 95% off America, believe it or not... they did it right, and cultivated a national following.

STL Blues: Why? - - I dunno - - I guess everyone has to have their own private "Cubs" to root for, even when ya' know they'll never, ever win the big 'un...

Steelers: Ya' always gotta' root for the "home team", especially when you make your new home in a place such as Pittsburgh...
