One thing I have noticed about the region is that the education level is MUCHO higher than in areas *with* a high immigration population.

Metro Denver has a large immigrant population, mostly from Mexico, and a well educated population. It can happen in tandem.

Fine. I'm taking my point back. I'm kidding. What you say may be true, however I don't see much evidence of it.

Oh, no, not another statistical post from pittnurse70!

For population 25 years and over in Denver

High school or higher: 78.9%
Bachelor's degree or higher: 34.5%
Graduate or professional degree: 12.4%

96,601 residents are foreign born (12.3% Latin America, 2.3% Asia, 1.8% Europe).
This city: 17.4% (Denver)
Colorado: 8.6%

For population 25 years and over in Pittsburgh

High school or higher: 81.3%
Bachelor's degree or higher: 26.2%
Graduate or professional degree: 12.5%

18,874 residents are foreign born (2.4% Asia, 2.2% Europe, 0.6% Latin America).

This city: 5.6% (Pittsburgh)
Pennsylvania: 4.1%

Stats in both cases are just for the cities. Just an example. Sorry, it's the only city I know much about other than Pburgh and Champaign, Ill, which is MUCH smaller.

Sure, just throw some stats into my face, fine friend you are! I'm basically too lazy to look anything up for Phoenix, but I'd wager a pretty penny that the numbers don't stack up any where near Denver's!

High school or higher: 90.1%
Bachelor's degree or higher: 39.6%
Graduate or professional degree: 14.6%
Unemployed: 4.3%

and here's Phoenix:

For population 25 years and over in Phoenix

High school or higher: 76.6%
Bachelor's degree or higher: 22.7%
Graduate or professional degree: 7.6%
Unemployed: 5.6%

LOL, yeah, "Tempe" which is not Phoenix. And to me, 22% with a Bachelor's degree is very low. I live in North Scottsdale:
(according to city-data)

For population 25 years and over in Scottsdale
High school or higher: 93.5%
  • Bachelor's degree or higher: 44.1%
  • Graduate or professional degree: 14.7%
  • Unemployed: 3.5%
  • Mean travel time to work: 24.3 minutes

If you ask me, Tempe is a college town, and Pittsburgh is a college town, so they're better comparisons than Phoenix and Pittsburgh. Phoenix is a hell of a lot bigger than Pittsburgh.

It seems that when people describe Pittsburgh they have no qualms about bundling in Fox Chapel or Mt. Lebanon, which I understand are different cities from Pittsburgh. When I asked about good public schools in Pittsburgh I got directed to Jefferson Hills and South Park and Peter's Township... and therefore it seems safe to bundle in Tempe or Scottsdale when talking about Phoenix, n'est-ce pas?

BECAUSE Pittsburgh is so much smaller, it only makes sense to lump them all in. Just my opinion.
