This was already posted in the Happenings thread, but I wanted to bump it up to its own thread. Netroots Nation is going to be in Pittsburgh this year, from August 13-16:

Netroots Nation

The politics may or may not be your cup of tea, but it is a pretty big event from a purely public relations standpoint, with prior events (dating back to when it was called YearlyKos) having been held in Las Vegas, Chicago, and Austin. By the way, they chose Pittsburgh this year in part because they are trying to "green" their convention, and David L. Lawrence is LEED-certified.

Anyway, if you see an unusually large number of people with laptops wandering around Downtown those particular days, that is why.

The DailyKos, Al Gore, and Howard Dean?!?! Oh please tell me I'm dreaming! If only our beloved Ed Rendell were to also grace us with an appearance!

Thanks Brian! I originally posted it in happenings and no one seemed to notice.

I guess we are the only people who think this is a big deal! Of course I don't blame anyone if they don't follow the progressive blogosphere on a daily basis, but this really has become an important real world political event: prior conventions have featured the Democratic presidential candidates, Speaker of the House Pelosi, DNC Chairman Dean, this time I think Specter and Sestak will be there taking questions (that should be very interesting), and so on. And you just can't beat a bunch of young folks blogging away from Pittsburgh for marketing Pittsburgh's new image. So again, regardless of your political persuasion, I think it is pretty cool this is happening here.

Oh well--thanks for posting it originally anyway!

I actually don't follow the political blogosphere much, but I seem to have gotten on a bunch of democratic email lists and I get info on all kinds of stuff. When I saw this I figured it was pretty cool to have such a major event in Pittsburgh.

Me too--and then write about it.

By the way, here is a nice PG article about the conference:

Netroots Nation comes to town

Incidentally, there is also a conservative bloggers conference in town:

Conservative bloggers meeting here admit being outgunned by liberal counterparts

Again, regardless of your politics, I think it is good for Pittsburgh to have a lot of bloggers visit, so the more the merrier as far as I am concerned.

I'll be interested in reading what bloggers end up blogging about the city.
