I am a new resident here in Pittsburgh. I recently moved here from MN. I am a Spanish language learner and am hoping to find some hispanic people here to chat with. I did a language swap with some hispanic people in MN, where I helped them with English, they helped me with Spanish. If I could find someone interested here, that would be perfect. If there is someone kind enough who knows English well, and is just willing to speak Spanish with me, that would also be great--native speaker or language learner like me. Any guidance as to a more appropriate website would also be great. Thank you so much. Hope to hear from some people!

There isn't a large hispanic population in Pittsburgh, but I found this in a google search: The Hispanic Center, Inc. - Home

On this page http://www.pghhispaniccenter.org/training.html (broken link) , Allegheny Intermediate Unit and Goodwill Industries are listed as places to learn English as a second language.

You could call and ask if you could be a volunteer who helps Spanish speakers learn English in exchange for practicing Spanish perhaps.

If that doesn't work, call the main nummber of the Hispanic Center and ask for ideas.

depending on where you live I know there is a little hispanic community that resides in Wexford, PA. There are two stores/shops that have a good bit of hispanics in them on a regular basis......There is a resturant called "Patron's" that is really good and it is Hispanic run and Hispanic owned. Also, there is a Hispanic grocery store that offers traditional Hispanic food products/ingrediants.

Very small concentration of people but nonetheless there are some.

There is The Pittsburgh Spanish Language Meetup Group, which has monthly get togethers in Squirrel Hill and possibly elsewhere in the city.
You can google the group's name for more info.

Default hispanic pittsburgh

Have you discovered these places yet?

Tango Cafe on Forward avenue in Squirrel Hill has spanish speakers that meet every Saturday afternoon to chat. The owner is from Argentina, I believe.

St Catherine's Catholic church, Beechview av and Belasco av. in Beechview has mass in Spanish every Sunday.

Another Catholic Church on Blvd of Allies in Oakland has mass in Spanish every Sunday

Murray avenue in Squirell Hill has a Latin American Center that assists hispanics that recently moved here.

Chicken Latino in Strip District has a spanish speaking owner from
Venezuela, I think.

Emiliano's mexican restaurant on E. Carson at about 26 street has all spanish speaking employees.

El Campesino restaurant in
Robinson near the Burger King and Best Buy has all spanish speaking employees.

Mendoza Express at the bottom of Mansfield av, speak spanish

All of those restaurants have the local spanish newpaper about happenings in the area. Can't think of the name of the paper right now.

Have you had any luck yet?

Has this actually been confirmed? I've been through Beechview a zillion times and I just don't feel the Latin flavor. I don't remember seeing any signs in Spanish or any hispanic restaurants, clubs, or bars. Where are all these hispanic people at? I think this whole thing started when Mayor Luke just randomly declared Beechview to be the hispanic area for Pittsburgh. I thought it was bizarre then and I haven't changed my mind since. If someone moves to Beechview and only speaks Spanish they're going to have a tough time.

I'm Mexican and Italian. Try the Beechview area. It's been a couple of years since I've been in Beechview but I remember seeing a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce office in the area and seeing a few people who "looked" mexican hanging outside Tienda la Jimenez. Good Luck
