Been lurking in these forums for a while. First post here...

I am looking for an apartment in the city (studio or 1BR)...I like to live in the busier areas of the city -Bars, clubs, restaurants, sports etc

Looking at downtown, strip district, southside, and even certain parts of oakland right now.

Anybody know if their are apartments available in those areas for around 600 or so??

any advice appreciated!

Welcome! South Side may seem the most affordable out of what you have mentioned. Also nearby the strip is Lawrenceville.

Downtown will be out of price range plus it's not actually the place for many bars/clubs. South Side or Lawrenceville is probably better. South Side has the most bars, but quantity may not equal quality depending upon what you prefer.

There was a member on here who lives downtown. We were all amazed when he said how much he paid in rent because it was very reasonable.

I believe his apartment building was somewhere on Liberty Avenue. Maybe we can dig through some old thread to figure out which member posted about it.

Downtown living seems to be on two extremes, 300K dollar condos, and section 8 housing (often only "downtown" in the landlord's head). There are a few non section 8, but still income based deals like the Century Building, though.

No. No. No. I'm talking about a building that's on Liberty Avenue right smack in the middle of Downtown.

It's not Section 8 or income based at all. It's loft apartments that were very reasonably priced for Downtown.

There are a few affordable apartment buildings downtown. There are the May Building, Midtown Towers, 625 Stanwix St. Apartments, Roosevelt Apartments, Pennsylvanian Apartments, Penn Garrison Apartments, and probably a few I am missing. The latter two are over 800/ month, however the former are around 500-600 and are not income restricted. However, there is a very long waiting list.
