I'd rather have an articulate, well spoken, and respectable person speaking out on behalf of the unemployed than Ed Schultz. People tend to actually listen, learn, and change their thinking on a topic when you educate them with facts and logic. Sometimes the messenger does more harm than good.

P.S. You neglected to mention one of the sources I provided was MSNBC...hardly right-wing.

Why don't you go off and find us some supporters who are articulate, well spoken, and respectable. Ed might not be respectable to you, but he is considered more the respectable. When he can land the Pres. on his show and ask him to do an executive order extending benefits for the 99er's. he's got more than his amount of respect. There has been one member in Congress go out on a limb, on video, stating they would support Tier 5. Don't sit back and complain that someone has brought some Tier 5 support and you don't like the person. Show us other Ed Shultz's that you like so that we can contact them and gain support.

First of all Mr. Ed Schultz has a show of his own BECAUSE he has a following and a fan base. They come to view his show BECAUSE they 'tend to listen' , learn, and appreciate what and how he says it. That's why he has his own show. Those that tune in from this wider audience base don't tune in because they dislike his approach and don't want to listen. Let's make sense. So your concern is not relevant in this case. No one comes to listen to the Ed Schultz show because they OPPOSE him and want to tune him out. If we use logic we'd be in agreement. So let's give a shout out to Mr. Schultz and send him your thanks now that YOU know that those that tune in to listen actually LIKE HIM.

Honestly -- speaking about the 99'ers & getting it out there that the "extensions" don't do anything for them, and actually driving the point home with even Democrat senators who have a hard time acknowledging it, on a cable news network is big news for 99'ers who have been looking for publicity past blogs. [great but unnoticed for the most part except for those who already care -- preaching to the choir stuff].

Ed isn't all alone on that station or on cable news. If his show - no matter what you think of him intellectually - gets response in the form of email, letters, viewers - then others may follow suit.

I realize the cable stations have their slant & followers --- but numbers mean $$$$$. If what he does is supported, others will follow suit. If all he does is to get others to at least correctly report that 99'ers do not benefit from extensions currently proposed, I'll be happy for a start.

I am practical here -- cable news is not brain surgery, nor an economic conference at Princeton. It's a lot of opinion, part entertainment, with a good dose of controversy. It's about making $$$. That's why it's important to support the messenger who can get airtime on an issue you care about. There are no Walter Kronkites out there on "news" any more whom people "trust".

Many have contacted tons of "main stream media" to report this right. If there's someone out there we can get to address the issues of the unemployed on a regular basis, you see any cracks in their doors -- please post! For now, the only one who does, gets regular props from me.

Live + Same Day Cable News Daily Ratings for June 17, 2010

6PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
Special Report w/ Bret Baier – 1,837,000 viewers (369,000) (733,000)
Situation Room—539,000 viewers (146,000) (242,000)
Ed Show —686,000 viewers (204,000) (313,000)
Mad Money — a scratch w/85,000 viewers (a scratch w/42,000) (a scratch w/50,000)
Prime News – 248,000 viewers (132,000) (165,000)

Number 3. Not even Number 2?

Honestly...let me give you an example: What has more impact, pictures of the oil-soaked wildlife in LA, or that fat woman covered in fake oil screaming her head off at the bp hearings on capitol hill? When you're fighting an uphill battle which includes a pre-existing stereotype of unemployed people, the last person you want speaking on your "behalf" is a socialist nut job like Ed Schultz.

I have a problem even responding to your post but for the sake of others that may not see through this distraction you've put up......this is not about how his (Ed Schultz) viewership compares to another 'mainstream' cable news show, it IS about how Ed Schultz is ONE OF THEM and the 99ers and long term unemployed are being acknowledged by a "MAINSTREAM MEDIA" source. If you cared about the interest of the unemployed (which your posts seem to have a different agenda than) you would see that ANY major coverage by a MAINSTREAM source would be IMPORTANT to have. ED SCHULTZ is a part of that and has had the guts to step up and express his support for the unemployed. What is your agenda?? Are you against the public having access to this information? Your above post is almost sad in how disconnected it appears to the significance of having the 99ers plight HEARD and delivered by MAINSTREAM MEDIA. If there is nothing constructive you know of to speak on and your agenda is that you have something against Ed Schultz I am sure there are other threads that focus on "Media Personalities I Don't Like" instead of threads such as this one that focus on THE LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED AND THEIR INTERESTS.

He's definitely not "I think I am going to work in the garden today" Ed. That's not what we need. But if Martha Stewart came forward today stating support for the 99er's, we all should be trying to get in contact with her to thank her.

LMAO if you think Congress gets its marching orders from media personalities and celebrities.
Do you really really think a Senator gives a rat's a** if Keith Olbermann says uncouth things?
Do you really think Congress cares if you threaten to vote them out when they have a cushy board of directors job waiting for them after their 'service'?
The marching orders comes from their sponsors: JP Morgan-Chase, barclay's, Deutsche Bank, Exxon.. just like Joe Gibbs Racing and all the NASCAR teams are a puppet of their sponsors. Government is no different. If it were, police officers would be utilizing their time making the streets safe, not by handing out parking tickets and hiding behind overpasses to ticket you for going 5mph over the speed limit.
