WILMINGTON, N.C. -- A 40-year-old high school science teacher and cross country coach has resigned his position and married a 16-year-old student.
Brenton Wuchae coached Windy Hager at South Brunswick High School, where she recently completed her sophomore year as one of the school's top runners. He also lives less than two miles away from the Hagers' home on Oak Island.
Wuchae married Hager in Brunswick County on Monday, according to a marriage license.
Hager's parents, Dennis and Betty Hager, said they did all they could to keep the couple apart after noticing a deeper-than-usual friendship forming between them. The parents said they tried to intervene by talking to the coach, going to school officials, pleading with police and sheriff's office detectives, even other teachers and students at South Brunswick.
But the Hagers say they reluctantly signed a consent form allowing their daughter to marry her coach.

I don't know why the AP says this happened in Wilmington. Where this happened in Brunswick County is near Wilmington, but is not even in the same county as Wilmington.
Anyway, what is so remarkable (and disturbing) about this story, is that this is the fourth time this has happened this year in Brunswick county's school system! I don't know what they are putting in the water over there. In the other three incidents this year, teachers were arrested.
After more than a year of battling their teenage daughter, the Hagers finally broke down.
Betty and Dennis "Bubba" Hager tried everything in their power to keep Windy away from Brenton Wuchae, her 40-year-old South Brunswick High School cross country coach.
They exhausted their resources, the Hagers said. They reached out to school officials, law enforcement, teachers and students. They asked Wuchae to leave their daughter alone. They tried to get a restraining order against him.
Nothing could stop the unlikely couple from being together.

if shes 16 then techniqually does it matter? shes old enough to make her own decisions isnt she? if they want to be together wheres the problem? the problem i would of had being parent to the daughter isnt that he was a teacher, but the age gap. teachers and students are all the same people they live in the same world if teachers cant date students then how the [mod]language[/mod] are they meant to date? everyones a student at some point. and i think as long as their 16 or over its fine!

Is she pregnant or something??? Or do they figure then they don't have to pay for her anymore??
