Roy Rogers auction in NYC offers Trigger's remains - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100709/ap_on_en_mo/us_roy_rogers_auction - broken link)
"The auction house is selling items from the now-closed Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum in Branson, Mo., next Wednesday and Thursday.
Unlike the fine furniture, paintings and jewelry that Christie's is famous for, the centerpiece of this auction is a stuffed and mounted horse rearing on its hind legs. It also will feature another type of horsepower — Rogers' 1964 Bonneville convertible adorned with collectible silver dollars, its door handles and gear shift replaced by silver-plated pistols.
The car is estimated to draw $100,000 to $150,000. Trigger is expected to fetch $100,000 to $200,000.
Other items for sale include: Rogers' and Evans' performance outfits; the preserved remains of Rogers' dog, Bullet; about 60 pairs of cowboy boots; the Rogers family dining table; and the Jeep "Nellybelle" from the Roy Rogers TV show"
I could say the end of an era -- or the end of respect!

How do you get "the end of respect," at this late date?
Whoever or whatever buys Trigger for $100,000-200,000 will show him the same respect his last owners showed him, and the ones before that, and the ones before that: plenty of it as long as he's worth the $.
the horse looks pretty fleabitten nowadays the dog as well is losing his fur .. I dont see the value in dead critters the horse was mounted in 1965 and the hide is showing major aging signs . Trigger
the cars and the outfits tho.. well they should be worth a good chunk of change .
My husband read that a few days ago and I was surprised to hear about the sale. Did some research and here's a link to Roy Jr.'s annoucement about the sale.

How is this 'the end of respect'? Ideally, folks who truly treasure these things will buy them and cherish them. What a wonderful opportunity for fans who can afford it.
It is too bad that the museum had to close, but, time inevitably marches on.
The stuffed horse used to bounce in a grotesque fashion. I recall Roy on a special broadcast about the museum, and Roy looked like he was close to being stuffed himself. Roy Rogers was a good tv kiddie show. We all had our 59 cent toys that now sell for 50 bux, and we grew up with morals. It was the golden age of tv, and toys.

I went to the Roy Rogers Museum when it was in the California desert about 75 miles east of LA. This was about 20 years ago. Both Roy and Dale were still alive at that time, but their son, whom Ihappened to see, handled most of the day-to-day.
Yeah, I saw both Trigger the horse, and Bullet the dog. I didn't see a stuffed Pat Brady anywhere though. What's a TV cowboy museum without a "comical sidekick"?
