And you happen to have an heated argument with another person, who also has a gun.

Would you pull out the gun?!?!?

I bet not. If you pull out the gun, you might able to kill the other person and the same time got killed by the other person.

This is why gun is important. It is a check and balance. It does matter if your are outsize your opponent, with gun, it is balance.

The scenario you gave in the op is played out with disaterous results by gang members. You know, the guys who don't subscribe to gun laws or any other laws for that matter. These are the guys who shoot you for dissing them or wearing the wrong colored shirt. the same guys who keep Chicago's murder rate so high. the same guys who will ignore any firearm restrictions that may come from the savior himself who lives in the WH.

Two hunters arguing over a pheasant probably aren't going to shoot it out.

Any responsible gun owner knows his guns would be taken from him for any criminal act or pretext of a criminal act and the way the law works, you won't know if you committed a criminal act until years after all your money is spent on lawyers and all the appeals and reversals have been argued.

Of course if you ask Jimmy Hoffa jr he would say to take out the SOB.
Obama advises to bring a gun to a knife fight. Wonder what he would do?

Heated arguments initiate far less shooting than wearing the wrong colored shirt in the wrong part of town.

Why would I want to kill someone over a discussion? People behave like that are extremely rare and most are either dead or in the mental hospital.

There's one thing you need to know, human are habitual animals. We don't just do things out of blue. There's always a progression to reach the point of no return.

Another thing is that it is very difficult for a human to kill another human. Over 95-98% of us wouldn't kill anybody even under some extreme threat - most us rather die then kill. The ability to kill another human being is again an extremely rare characteristic.

They don't tell you all that in University of Hollywood though.

Ummmm....

Why would I pull out the gun or have a heated argument?

Nice way to end up in prison or possibly dead.

When I carry my gun I'm actually much more considerate than I am without it...
