"Sgt. Matthew Grimes was asked to give a presentation to a church audience on July 24 at Municipal Gardens, in the 1800 block of Lafayette Road.During the presentation, an altercation broke out in the crowd, and Grimes intervened. The officer was thrown to the ground and drew his Taser, ready to stun one of the people involved, police said.At that point, someone stepped in and told the officer that the incident had been concocted to test the reaction of the officer to the situation, police said. Grimes suffered severe back spasms after the incident and was taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment."
Are you serious?! First, why the constant need for "black" churches? Why the segregation? Second, staging a fight?! Really? What is wrong with some people's brains? Why would you do that. Thankfully, injury wasnt severe but things couldve been worse.
Annnnnnnnnnd...wait for it...There will be no prosecution of the criminals..And yes, they are criminals...hate crimes, conspiracy to commit a felony...the list goes one..*sigh*
First, why the constant need for "black" churches? Why the segregation?
First, nothing in the story characterizes the church as being "black" or identifying itself as being so.
Second, if you have never been to a service conducted in the African American worship tradition then I can understand your not having a clue as to why such churches not only exist but flourish. The African American worship tradition is demonstratively different from the worship traditions of other Christians, the music is different, the participation of the congregation is different, the style and cadence of the service is different and the theological emphasis on what Christ taught is different and as such is more consistent with a style of worship that has evolved over hundreds of years.
Third, this has nothing to do with "segregation" since I have yet to see or hear of a traditional African American church that did anything bother than to bend over backwards to insure that their non-African American worshipers are welcomed into the congregation.

First let me say if this story is true, these have to be the most stupid and ignorant people.
Now to your comment about "Black church", they are only called that due to their location and those that attend. If you had a mixture of folks attending the church, then of course it would not be called a black church. Unless you could show me differently that a church turn away a parishoner based on their color, your comment is similar to the race baiting in the article.
The same could be said of Asian church, Hispanic church

Reading that was the equivalent of riding behind a car like this:
Thats whats spews out of a mind clogged with racism.
James Harrington, pastor of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, said he set up the scenario to test a white officer's reaction to a fight between two black men.

{Gupton said Friday evening.} "It was simply just trying to make a teachable moment, to try and teach young people about violence."
That was a brilliant idea!
Introducing doubt and hesitation into the minds of your community law enforcement officers due to worry that it could be another 'test' - that's just great! Maybe next time, when it turns out not to be a 'test', someone will get beaten/shot/stabbed dead while the officer mulls over whether or not it is a 'test'. That would be a great way to "teach young people about violence." Just brilliant!
