many people don't understand the importance AND seriousness of china and russia and what they are or are not doing.
Possibly, to an extent; the world depends on the USA for wheat. We burn much of our corn food product via ethanol. If you've driven through the bread basket of this nation you will see that overall we are having a decent crop year. The non-farming public fails to understand that our grain reserves from previous years is significant.
There is much merit to planting a "victory garden" and canning one's own produce. Even those in apartments with a balcony have the ability to raise some of their own food even if they choose to lack the will.

They already taught us how to crouch under our desks when the nuke-tipped ICBMS start flying, what more disaster preparedness do we need?
As does more than half a century of nut jobs believing America is the world's police and it is our duty to fight for other people while Americans get a cold shoulder.
I don't because it's too heavy for me to carry up a flight of stairs but if I did I'd buy the Campbells Chunky Soups because you don't mix them with water or anything else and they are like individual stews that get warmed up in their container. I suspect you could eat them cold, too.
Gun after eye surgery.
If I was going to buy a lot of something it would be batteries because they are small, can be traded and would be in demand.
Well, we live on a small ranch. The land it's self is prime farm land, but I have no ag water. Water is the limiting factor for agriculture in Colorado. If I had water rights to any of the irrigation ditches around here, theoretically my family could be entirely self sufficient.
As it stands now, I have a large garden which has yielded an abundance of potatoes, tomatoes, onions, chilie peppers, corn, beets and other vegetables. Preserved and canned, these will last us at least a year. I also keep two dozen hens. Again, if I had enough water, I could add beef and dairy cattle and hogs to the mix.
I don't do any of this because I think the world is coming to an end, but because I enjoy a rural lifestyle. I used to spend a lot of time on my grandpa's farm as a boy and I swore that one day I would live in the country myself. Plus, it gave me an excuse to buy a tractor. Tractors are just cool....

Sounds like you have a good situation and are ready if ? the SHTF. Having a rooster and some hens gives you at least a good meat supply and eggs. I just knocked off 8 and jarred 6 and froze the other 2. With eggs we have been freezing the over supply by putting them in muffin pans.Running hot water on the bottom to remove and storing them in plastic bags, they do not lay here in the winter.
You are right a tractor is cool, but it is out of our price range. We are buying the second best thing a roto tiller and it's not cool but efficient.Good luck to you and your family.
