I was born in 1934. The problem was that half the people were worrying about putting food on the table and half of the others didn't even know what the stock market was.
FACTOID: The original Coca Cola formula included cocaine.
Jeez- Hoarding bottles of 1930's Coke probably would have paid off more then buying the stock.
No...I was serious. A person who might have purchased two shares of coca cola stock in the nineteen thirties and held them through all the splits and never collected the dividends...allowing them to accumulate more stocks would be as rich as Gates, Warren Buffett or others who are worth billions.

I knew you were serious, I thought the part about cocaine in the recipe was interesting.
I knew about the cocaine, too. . . .but also know that had I purchased raw land in the area between Cave Creek and Scottsdale Roads, between Bell Road and Carefree highway, back in the 80's, I would be rich now, too. I wanted to, i tried hard to get some of my more well off friends to do that, and was constantly "poo-pood", 'cause there were no utilities to most of that land. . . .all that was needed was time. . . . . .I suspect such opportunities are still out there, you have to be in a financial position to take advantage of them, something I have been chronically unable to do.

Same thing in west Knoxville, TN. In 1970 anything more than four or five miles west of the university was basically farmland. Now the equivalent of small cities with half million dollar houses exist in abundance in that same area.
If I'd been old enough to purchase Coke stock in the 30's, I'd either be dead, or approaching the checkered flag.
I'm kind of glad I didn't.
Like I said...I was born in 1934 and stock purchase was not even part of the world I lived in. As far as the finish line...I'm 76 and in near perfect health. My dad lived to 89 and was in good health all the way up to the last year or so. My mama turned 98 the last day of July. I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel yet.
