small business that makes $250,000, what are you gonna do? you're certainly not going to expand, because you will be punished. small business making $260,000, better layoff a couple of people. individual making $260,000, better ask for that pay decrease of $10,001. people will scoff at this idea, but this is the reality. I will just sit back and laugh at this blowing up in their faces.

I think that will depend where the tax rate goes to. If it is just restoring 39% then I don't think it will act as a huge disincentive.

Do you make over 250k a year? Do you even know how the tax cuts work? Apparently not from your analogy.

I know enough to know that there's no such thing as a tax cut. do I make over $250k? well, I'm in school at the moment, so no. do people in my family make over $250k, yup, and they're already seeking advice from a financial advisor. I don't really think the gangsters in washington know that people hate taxes.

Let's see, to not pay $3600 (36% marginal rate) - vs the $3300 on that $10,001 you are paying now, you will be willing to reduce your intake by $10,000. Brilliant!

ETA: drop you income to zero and you will save 100% in taxes.

that's for $260k. for someone making $250k, they will immediately ask for a pay decrease. but for me, I'd personally give up $7k, to keep my money out of the hands of the extortionists in washington. it's called principle. something liberals have none of.

If the sole "principle" is tax avoidance, zero income will also do it.

ETA: they would be stupid to ask for a pay decrease. They will save $300 in taxes but lose $10,001 in income. See my previous post.

that's much easier to do if you run your own small business. and it's a lot easier than you think. you can write off shoelaces.

Right now, that person would be paying 33% on that extra $10,000. So you think that someone would take a pay cut of $10,000 to avoid paying that extra 6% .... or $600?

The reality is that any new tax would be applied to household income starting at $250,001.
