These schools look silly doing this. Obama isn't going to "indoctrinate" any kids. LOL

A Utah progressive group is saying it was inappropriate for some schools to send letters and opt-out forms home to parents before President Barack Obama’s speech to schoolkids Tuesday...

I suppose it's the parents option and should be asked. In Utah allot of people don't want their kids involved in politics. The Mormon philosophy Kids are seen not heard.
I disagree and think that no matter what age if you fail to listen to the President speak, like him or not you are missing out on not only forming an opinion but also history.
But that's my opinion and in Utah (where you can't go to a bar with out membership) they have their way and I won't try to make that choice for them.

Isn't this the same fear and hatred based reaction that many people held last year, too?

Kids don't need permission to listen to a back to school speech by the President. Kids never needed permission to see the other things on TV that were broadcast in schools over the years, usually horrible things about people dying in explosions (Space Shuttle Columbia) or being murdered (JFK's funeral).

This was just in reaction to last years craziness about "indoctrination". We are a nation of idiots to allow that kind of stuff to be taken seriously. Seriously!

Assemblies and speeches were wastes of time that could be better used teaching Johnny how to read and write and do maths.

I don't know what the hell is so wrong with people who are against Obamas speech.

I wouldnt mind a speech like this even if the President was Republican. I actually think the President regardless of party should give a speech to the students every year.

I think it's great that parents can opt out of having their children forced to listen to Barry's speech! We don't need indoctrinated drones. I'm sure they can spend their class time actually learning something truthful rather than a load of BS.

There's way too much hatred out there right now. How disrespectful! What a terrible message these schools and parents are teaching their kids.
