Let the people elect the Vice President!

Not like you think though.

The Presidential race has two candidates and sometimes three.

Second Place becomes the Vice President.

If there is a third, they become Secretary of State.

Wouldn't that be interesting?

After a brutal campaign, they would be forced to work together and be each others buddy. Maturity and accountability, would once again be characteristics the people would need in a leadership.

Uhh....no, that wouldn't be interesting. We've tried that before and ended up with paralzyed and divided administrations. That's why there was a 12th Amendment.

Just seeing if people knew how Adams and Jefferson didn't really like each other.

Assassinations would be up! You would have to have big balls to even want to be president.

No one would run and people not wanting to be President, surprised they won. The vice President would be surprised too.

It would be a popularity contest for people that didn't know they were popular.

Is the vice president important in the first place? Does Biden do anything besides making odd comments?
Isn't the vice president more like a spare president sitting on the bank and waiting for the president to bite the dust or be impeached?

Considering how many sitting American Presidents have died while in office.
I'd say the VP is of more than minor importance................................

If anything, eliminate the Vice Presidency - an idea that was taken very seriously during the Nixon Administration, I think that even some members of Congress were talking about doing so at that time. The idea was revived in liberal circles during George W. Bush's administration but nobody ever seriously tried to do so. It would not surprise me if it is being discussed in Tea Party circles right now but I don't know for sure.

Make the Secretary of State first in line to the presidency if the president dies, resigns, is impeached, or is permanently incapacitated.
