It's a slippery slope. Do you want the gov't telling you what you can and can't buy with your social security or tax refund check? Same thing.
Not the same thing. One is a handout and the others are a taxed-derived benefits (income tax refunds are YOUR money----even socialists can understand this).

lol, They are both yours to begin with, in the case of the refund it's an interest free loan from you to Uncle Sam. Look into adjusting your withholding if you're getting a big refund.
one of the biggest problems is that the junk food is a whole lot cheaper than the nutritious stuff
You might pay a lot for fresh fruits and vegetables especially when they are out of season but the basics are not more expensive. I have a pound of flour and it gets used, how many people on food stamps are using flour?

Social security is a hand out. In most cases you take more than you give. Lets tell old folks what they can and can't buy with their checks?
I am torn on this one. At least in NY, you can't by alcohol, cigs and a few other things. They seem like sensible limits. But is it a slippery slope? Why not prohibit junk food? We agree on a prohibition of sorts on alcohol why not other products that are not good for you? Maybe people will get off of food stamps sooner if they can't get those things? If we are paying don't we get to call the tune?
